A very special vow renewal.

Family photos in the backyard.

Six years ago I photographed a wedding. A beautiful mum was sitting with her little baby on her lap. Of course I took a photo. When I photographed them recently in their backyard for their 10th wedding vowel renewal, she reminded me. It was that photo of her with her first born that made her book me. This is the third time I have photographed their family. Every session has been at home and every photo shoot tells a different story of the season of their life.

As I was preparing to head off to photograph this glorious family, I said to my own “I love this family so much… I love being with them” and it is the absolute truth. I arrive and we chat pretty much non stop…and then we just do what they “do” when they are together at home. They sit at the table, make coffee and make the most ridiculously great smelling garlic bread, yawn and pull weeds in the garden if they see them. They play and rest. Feed chickens and collect eggs. But most of all..they have so much fun with each other. They are some of the most playful and intentional parents I know.

I am grateful that their children’s room aren’t spotless when I arrive….how would we remember them accurately with all the things they are passionate about at this stage?

There is so much freedom. There is so much love. As the sun is setting they start dancing to one of their favorite songs they play whenever they feel the need to dance or lighten the mood….”Go Bananas”. It is clearly a fabulous family tradition.

I am embraced just like a family member … a plate is at the table for me to have the celebration cake…there is also an invite to stay for dinner. A new name is given to me by the youngest “Bub Waffle”. It feels like a badge of acceptance.
It is entirely dark when I leave and by now they know this is exactly how long I will stay.

I hope I get to document these young boys until their young manhood years and beyond.

Love Bub Waffle x
