A Maternity Session Close to My Heart

A new baby is on the way, and we are so excited! What a privilege it was to photograph a maternity session for these Darlings… my nephew and niece-in-law.
Though I say “in-law,” neither of my nieces-in-law have ever felt like that to me… they’re simply family.

This dad-to-be (well, he already is one really) was the most glorious, easy-going baby. I used to visit at night and go straight into his room to pick him up out of his cot — while he was sleeping! I wasn’t a parent myself back then… and there’s no way I would’ve let anyone do that with my own kids! Thankfully, my sister was much more relaxed than I ever was.

He was simply glorious. And now, here he is, about to become a dad himself. I’m certain that if they have a little girl, she’ll look just like the little girl from Monsters Inc.

His wife is a gift to our entire family. Our girl thinks it’s the best thing ever having cousins who are not only older than her but who marry and bring wonderful women into our lives.

This mumma inspires me constantly with her creativity in ceramics. She was also the one who started the whole “let’s make sourdough” trend in our family! For several years now, our Christmas gifts have been hampers filled with homemade goodies …often made from fruit and vegetables her family have grown themselves. One year, she even made candles from their own beeswax!

My gift last Christmas was a beautiful ceramic vessel. My daughter knows she can eat the lollies from it, but she’s not allowed to take the precious jar into her room!

I’m forever grateful that my nephews and nieces (and their lovely wives) include us in their lives — and that they all call me Aunty. I always correct them if they forget.
